FAQs

Migraine treatment is the use of botulinum toxin injections to treat chronic migraines. This method is licensed for use when oral methods of pain relief fail to alleviate symptoms.

Our doctors will always carry out a thorough consultation before administering treatment including a full medical history and talking through alternative treatments. If you are suffering from 15 headaches per month or 8 migraines per month, you would be a suitable patient. Migraine symptoms include an intense headache on one side making it difficult to carry out everyday tasks. In addition,  nausea and vomiting are often associated with migraines as well as sensitivity to light and sound. Triggers of migraine can be hormonal, emotional, physical, dietary, environmental and medicinal. We recommend keeping a diary of your headaches to identify triggers and patterns.

Yes, anti-wrinkle treatment (Botox) is licensed for use in treatment of migraines and is also an approved NHS treatment for migraines, however excessive waiting times and specific referral guidelines makes accessibility very difficult.

The procedure takes 10 minutes for our doctors to administer and involves injection of the head and neck muscles. The number of muscles injected will be dictated by the type of your migraine and severity.

Treatment lasts for 12 weeks and we recommend having the treatment repeated at this point if it has been effective. Anti-wrinkle treatment for migraines has been shown to be successful from reducing the severity to complete remission of migraines for 85-90% of our patients. However, please note that success can vary from individual to individual.
